How It Works
Detection Method:
- Monitors DNS queries from all connected clients via dnsmasq logs
- Captures TLS SNI (Server Name Indication) from HTTPS connection handshakes
- Redirects all client DNS (port 53) to local resolver for full visibility
- Blocks encrypted DNS (DoH/DoT) to force standard DNS during monitoring
- Matches queried domains against known app signatures (15 apps)
- Maps client IP → device name via DHCP leases
Privacy & Limitations:
- Only DNS domain names are analyzed — no message content
- All modern messaging apps use end-to-end encryption
- Devices using DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH) or DNS-over-TLS (DoT) will show limited results — marked with ⚠️ Encrypted DNS badge
- This tool identifies which apps are active, not what's being said
